Qigong Exercise


One day when I was surfing the web, I stumbled across a website where the following technique was described. I tried it myself and liked it. When you do this exercise you will feel and thus learn, how proper qigong should be performed. Qigong is not only about posture and moving the body accordingly to certain patterns; it is also about making the moves in the right way. The technique is simple, just do the following:



Before you perform your normal qigong exercise, find yourself a sturdy doorpost and lean your arm against it. Lift your arm. Of course you will not be able to move the arm since the doorpost probably sustains the pressure, but push the arm really hard as though if you could force you arm up anyway. Note that you should be using the muscles in your arm and not the weight of your body, when you press your arm against the doorpost. Apply this kind of pressure for at least one minute.



When one minute has passed, take a step back and just relax your body and your arm. If you did it right, you should feel your arm move as if it had a life of its own. You really do not have to do anything, just relax and focus on how it feels in your arm when it moves. This is how it should feel when you practice qigong and now you can continue with your ordinary qigong routine. If your arm doesn't move, you didn't put enough effort in it; do it again!

Are you curios about why your arm seemed to have a life of its own? Basically it is about straining some outer layers of muscles, stimulating deeper layers of muscles to perform the movement. This is what it feels like to perform qigong the proper way. Even though the exercise won't give you a full blown experience of chi, it will give you a sense of how it is to experience chi.
Please note that all this is accordingly to the website where I read about this exercise. I am a really inexperienced qigong practitioner so I wouldn't know, but it sure feels like they might be right.
